How does it work?
Set up GA4 event tracking with Google Tag Manager
Get started with Google Analytics 4 event tracking with Google Tag Manager in four simple steps. Just select the container, download it, import it and then test and publish.

Step One
Select of the container templates that you would like to use. Next, download the container of your choice, and, if necessary, go over the provided json file.
Step Two
If you didn't already, create a Google Tag Manager account or create a new container for your existing account. Next, head to the Admin section, and choose import container.
Step Three
For Choose container file, select the file you just downloaded. Then choose Existing, followed by selecting Merge. Finally, click on confirm.
Step Four
Last but not least, change the Google Analytics 4 Measurement ID variable's value to that of your property and review the other tags, triggers and variables. Once you are done reviewing, it's time to preview and test the workspace changes. Once you have confirmed everything is working correctly, publish your container and you are done.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Open Tag Manager
- In the Accounts tab, next to the account name, click More ActionsCreate Container.
- Enter a descriptive Container name and select the container type.
- To create your container, click Create
- Open Tag Manager.
- In the Variables tab, locate the variable Google Analytics 4 Measurement ID.
- Paste the new value. The new value should be the Measurement ID of your Google Analytics 4 property.
- To confirm the change, click save.
- Open Tag Manager.
- In the Triggers tab, locate the trigger you want to change.
- If you are looking to fire the event using the Custom Event trigger but using a different name, simply paste your the new event name in the Event name input field.
- If you are looking to change the trigger type, click on the Trigger Type field and proceed to select the new event trigger.
Please note that changing the event trigger can cause some issues if not done properly. If you run into issues, you can reach out to us.
- Open Tag Manager.
- In the Tags tab, locate the event you want to change.
- If you are looking to change the name of the parameter, then locate the parameter and simply enter the new name in theParameter Name field.
- If you are looking to change the value of the parameter, then locate the parameter and simply enter the new value in the Valuefield.
- If you are looking to remove an event parameter, then locate the parameter and click on the (-) button.
- If you are looking to add a new parameter, then on the Add rowbutton and enter the event parameter name along with its corresponding value.
